Bawls Guarana Root Beer

Smell: 6/10 Sweet and Metalic

Taste: 4/10

Sweetness: 6/10

Thickness: 8/10

Carbonation: 5/10

After Taste: 4/10

OVERALL: 6/10

TASTING NOTES: Flavor is not well balanced and the guarana has a terrible “energy” flavor. The caffeine does make it taste better as you sip though.

Texas Root Beer

Dublin Texas Root Beer

Smell: 9/10 Licorice with sweet barrel undertones

Taste: 8/10

Sweetness: 9/10

Thickness: 7/10

Carbonation: 8/10

After Taste: 5/10

OVERALL: 7/10

TASTING NOTES: No major flavor problems but it definitely has more vanilla than “normal” root beers. It is incredibly sweet which honestly takes away from the other more subtle spices.

Virgil’s Special Edition Bavarian Nutmeg Root Beer

Virgil’s Special Edition Bavarian Nutmeg Root Beer

Smell: 10/10 Licorice with sweet barrel undertones

Taste: 8/10

Sweetness: 6/10

Thickness: 8/10

Carbonation: 3/10

After Taste: 8/10

OVERALL: 8/10

TASTING NOTES: Rich and creamy. Was delight in consistency but unlike the less expensive Virgil’s brand root beer, Special Edition Bavarian Nutmeg lacks the balanced flavors. Heavy licorice overtones with a nice nutmeg aftertaste. It was good but 8 dollars good? Probably not.

Maine Root Root Beer

Smell: 4/10 Light Spices, barely fragrant at all

Taste: 3/10

Sweetness: 2/10

Thickness: 5/10

Carbonation: 3/10

After Taste: 3/10

OVERALL: 3/10

TASTING NOTES: Subtle spices with a light tangy flavor. It’s cool that this root beer is fair trade and organic but there is no reason why the soda should be this bland. I appreciate what the company stands for, I just wish it stood for taste too.

Mr.Frosty’s Root Beer

Mr. Frosty’s Root Beer

Smell: 9/10 Heavy cream smell, almost like vanilla ice cream
Taste: 8/10
Sweetness: 9/10
Thickness: 10/10
Carbonation: 4/10
Aftertaste: 8/10

Overall: 8/10

Tasting Notes: Really sweet and creamy root beer. Doesn’t have the classic licorice taste. It has a syrup(like pancake syrup) taste that is a bit overpowering. If I gave bonus points for presentation Mr.Frosty’s would definitely get a 10. When you get the root beer in a mug ice crystals will begin to form making the experience just a little bit sweeter.

photo 4Mr.Frosty’s has a unique set of ingredients in their root beer. Instead of licorice Mr.Frosty’s has chosen to use an assortment of yucca root, nutmeg, and vanilla giving it a “holiday” taste. Mr.Frosty’s is in Denton,TX and is worth visiting even if you just drink the root beer. Ask for a frosty mug!
